“Sports and Games Week is next!”

Hello all,

“Cooking and Baking Week”  has come and gone and boy, was it great!  Read on  below to learn all about the fun that was had and learning that took  place!

The students arrived at school on Monday morning with one thing in mind – the WATER/SPRINKLER PARK!  The students could hardly wait to get over to the water play area!   Also on Monday, the students kicked off  “Cooking and Baking Week” by creating a very exciting, fun, and EDIBLE piece of art – an egg yolk painted cookie!  First, the students needed to make the cookies – from scratch!  Once the cookie dough had been rolled out, the students used colored egg yolk to paint designs onto the cookie!  After a quick trip to the oven, the cookie art was complete!  The only thing left to do was to enjoy them!  Take a look below to see some of the students’ AMAZING cookie art!

Now usually, the students of PPA are reminded that we do not play with our food.  On Tuesday, this rule went straight out the window as the students were given sliced bananas and sliced strawberries!  Whether they created a strawberry-banana snake or a fruit and veggie kabob, once thing was for sure – these artistic creations were beautiful and delicious!

On Wednesday, the students tried their hands at making their own Ice-Pops!   The students selected, mixed together, measured out, and poured assorted fruit juices into the Ice-Pop molds which were later placed in the PPA freezer.  After a few hours, the students were ready to dig in and enjoy the “fruits” of their labor :)  Some of the Ice-Pops had hardened while others were a bit slushy.  Thankfully the flavors were so delicious that no matter which one the students received – an ice-pop or an ice slushie – they certainly enjoyed it!

On Thursday, the students were visited by two representatives from Jersey City Medical Center – E.M.T. Mel and E.M.T. Jose!  As their names suggest, E.M.T. Mel and E.M.T. Jose are EMTs or Emergency Medical Technicians!  The students loved hearing about the important job E.M.T. Mel and E.M.T. Jose do in our community to help keep us all safe and healthy.  The students could hardly believe it when they learned that E.M.T. Mel and E.M.T. Jose had brought their ambulance with them!  The students all took turns hopping aboard and seeing what the inside of an ambulance looks like!  What an amazing experience.   The PPA students are so lucky to have such amazing and friendly helpers in our community!  To express their gratitude, the students of PPA presented EE.M.T. Mel and E.M.T. Jose with a special poster they had created earlier that morning.  What a wonderful day it was!
