“Cooking and Baking Week” Recap!

Hello all,

“Cooking and Baking Week”  has come and gone and boy, was it great!  Read on  below to learn all about the fun that was had and learning that took  place!

Due to some inclement weather on Monday and Tuesday, the students spent Monday and Tuesday inside but that did not stop them from having a blast!  On Monday, the students kicked off  “Cooking and Baking Week” by creating a very important (and functional) piece of art – a Baker’s Apron!  Take a look below to see how they did it!

On Tuesday, the students tried their hands at making their own Ice-Pops!   The students selected, mixed together, measured out, and poured assorted fruit juices into the Ice-Pop molds which were later placed in the PPA freezer.  After a few hours, the students were ready to dig in and enjoy the “fruits” of their labor 🙂  Some of the Ice-Pops had hardened while others were a bit slushy.  Thankfully the flavors were so delicious that no matter which one the students received – an ice-pop or an ice slushie – they certainly enjoyed it!

On Wednesday, the students were visited by two representatives from Jersey City Medical Center – E.M.T. Carlo and E.M.T. Nick!  As their names suggest, E.M.T. Carlo and E.M.T. Nick are EMTs or Emergency Medical Technicians!  The students loved hearing about the important job  E.M.T. Carlo and E.M.T. Nick do in our community to help keep us all safe and healthy.  The students could hardly believe it when they learned that E.M.T. Carlo and E.M.T. Nick had brought their ambulance with them!  The students all took turns hopping aboard and seeing what the inside of an ambulance looks like!  What an amazing experience.   The PPA students are so lucky to have such amazing and friendly helpers in our community!  To express their gratitude, the students of PPA presented E.M.T. Carlo and E.M.T. Nick with a special poster they had created earlier that morning.  Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this blog post to view all of the photographs from  E.M.T. Carlo and E.M.T. Nick’s visit to PPA.

On Thursday, it was time to go to the Turtle Back Zoo!  The students hopped aboard the air-conditioned school bus and greeted their favorite driver, Bus Driver Mike!  When the bus arrived at the zoo, the students unloaded and began their exploration of the zoo and all the new exhibits!  The animals must have heard that the PPA Kids were coming because whenever the students went up to the glass it seemed that the animals came right over to say hello!  What a great day at the zoo it was!  Thank you to all of the PPA parents who accompanied the students on the field trip!  We hope you had as much fun as we did!  Here are some of the photographic and video highlights from Thursday’s field trip to Turtle Back Zoo!

Friday was the final day and final field trip of the week.  The students headed to Goehrig’s Bakery for a sweet treat field trip!  Before they went, the students worked hard to create a special card for the baker and bakery employees who helped show the students around the bakery back in July.  The students practiced the entire experience of being a customer at the bakery as they each took turns ordering their own cupcake.  They were so excited to learn that the bakery employees added a special Smurf ring to each of the cupcakes!  What a special – and delicious – day it was!
