Hello all,
“Fall/Autumn Week” was full of chilly Fall weather and loads of Autumn excitement! Read on below to learn about all the fun that was had and learning that took place.
The teachers began the week by asking the students what happens in the Fall. Hands flew into the air as responses such as “the leaves fall down” and “the leaves change color” were shared. But Fall is not just about leaves! Other answers such as as “we do not go swimming at the pool anymore” or “we wear sweaters and coats” were mentioned. One student brought in a football to share because as she said, “Fall means Football!” Regardless of what the students associated Fall with, one thing was for sure – Fall is Fun! Throughout Fall/Autumn Week, the students created beautiful Fall-inspired art to honor this beautiful and dynamic season!
On account of some rainy end-of-Summer weather, the leaf collection project the teachers had planned for Monday was pushed back to later in the week. Instead, the students created a beautiful and glittery Awesome Autumn Acorn art project. Take a look below to see the students in Acorn Action!
On Monday (and Tuesday) afternoon, the students had a discussion about the rapidly approaching season, Fall! During the discussion, the teachers asked the students to brainstorm a list of what happens in the Fall and here is what they came up with!
On Tuesday, the students crafted a colorful Fall tree using paint! While the students used a paintbrush to create their tree-trunk, they certainly did NOT use a paintbrush to create the leaves of their tree. Can you look below and see what the students used? Here is a hint – Mommies and Daddies might use these to clean their ears!
On Wednesday, the students made new friends at school but not the kind you may be thinking of! These friends were Leaf-Friends made by transforming a leaf of their choice into a Leaf-pal with some googly eyes and a big smile. Whether they chose leaves of a great big Oak tree or the leaves of a skinny Ginko tree, the students all thought this project was super silly and super fun!
In the afternoon on Wednesday, the students brainstormed a list of questions they wanted to investigate during Friday’s technology presentation all about Fall! The students questions were excellent, be sure to take a look below to read some of them!
Also on Wednesday (and Thursday) afternoon, the students learned and performed a new Fall-themed song! Here are the lyrics:
Red and yellow, green and brown,
All the leaves are tumbling down.
Days are nippy, Nights are clear,
Summer’s over, Fall is here!
Here is the tune:

On Thursday, the students worked together to create birdseed ornaments! The students mixed together bird seed, flour, corn syrup, and water to create a goopy and seedy mixture. They then took turns scooping the mixture into tiny molds. After a quick trip to the oven, the ornaments had hardened and were ready to be strung and hung for all the local birdies to eat!
Speaking of birds, the teachers took this opportunity to introduce the students to a PPA class favorite – The Pigeon – from Mo Willem’s Pigeon book series! Now, anyone who has met the Pigeon knows just how silly he is. One day he wants to drive the bus, the next day he wants to stay up late, and the next he wants to have a hot dog party! Doesn’t he know he is just a pigeon!?!? Be sure to take a peek at one of the Pigeon’s silly stories on your next visit to PPA! 🙂
On Friday, the students created a painting in the wackiest – most Fall-iest – of ways… using mini-pumpkins! Click below to see how the students added the paint to their papers! Needless to say, they had a blast!

The pumpkin rolling art turned out great!
The afternoon wrapped up with a technology presentation all about – yep, you guessed it – FALL! After viewing some time-lapse video footage of leaves changing colors and falling, the students were starting to get really excited about Autumn! They particularly loved meeting Leafy, the leaf who was afraid to Fall. 🙂
Wow! What an amazing week! Although “Fall/Autumn Week” has come and gone, the season itself is just beginning which means there is plenty of time to enjoy all of the fun and wonder that the Fall brings! As always, thank you for reading and have a wonderful and safe weekend!
