“I LOVE MY MOMMY Week” is next!

Hello all,

“Letter Y is for Yummy Yellows Week” was … hmmm…. Yerrific, Yonderful, Yantastic, Youtstanding, and of course quite YummY! 🙂 Read on below to learn about the fun that was had and learning that took place!

The students spent Monday and Tuesday morning working one on one with the teachers to complete their Letter Y identification/fine motor activity pages. The teachers were so impressed with how easily the Younger students recognized the letter Y and also how well the older students remembered all things “Y” during their morning work!  In the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday, the students created the twenty-fifth letter list of the year! As a group, the students took turns brainstorming and contributing words that begin with the letter Y.  They also hunted around the classroom for letter Y items!  Speaking of letter Y items, the letter Y shares were quite plentiful!  From assorted yellow items to Younger “when I was a baby” photographs, the letter Y shares proved to be some of the most exciting shares yet!  Some of the shares that came in did not only start with the letter Y, they were quite YummY as well!  Several of the students even ate their shares at snacktime!  Judging by how quickly these shares were gobbled up, it is safe to assume that they were YummmmmmY!

Wednesday morning began with a special visit from a PPA Mommy who taught the students all about Yoga!  The Mommy and daughter duo photographed below explained to the students what Yoga is and whY they enjoy it so much!  They introduced the students to various Yoga poses including downward dog!  What a fun way to start the day!  A special PPA “Thank You” to this Mommy and daughter for spending the morning with us!

Later on Wednesday, the students blew the teachers away by brainstorming a list of Yummy Yellows – i.e. Food that is yummy and also yellow in color!  Would you believe they came up with a list of over 30 yellow foods?!?  Some of the Yummy Yellows included:  Scrambled Eggs, Bananas, Cheese, Golden Apples, Pineapple, Corn, Squash, Yellow Peppers, Spaghetti, and more!  Thinking outside of the box, one student even added “pollen” to the list noting that “Pollen is a Yummy Yellow for a Bumble Bee!”  How clever!

The Yummy Yellow excitement grew as the students learned they would be making Yummy Yellow Yogurt and Banana Smoothies!  The students followed the recipe precisely to ensure that their Yummy Yellow Yogurt Smoothie was delicious!  From the look of these photographs, it is safe to say that it was extra YummY!

During the afternoon on Wednesday, as well as Thursday and Friday, the students got a jump start on their special surprises for the AMAZING PPA Mommies in preparation for the annual PPA Mother’s Day Celebration which will be held next Friday!  As is always the case, the Mother’s Day projects are so special that they take a few extra days to complete.  The students worked diligently to create their special and surprise gifts!  Sorry, Mommies, no details will be given prior to the big day! :)  Be sure to look at next week’s blog post to see the students in action!

On Thursday morning, the students whipped up some more YummY Yellows!  This time, the students collaborated to create a delicious pineapple/orange juice slush!  With the help of the classroom blender once again, the students concocted their Yum-tastic Yellow treat and enjoyed snacking on it after lunch!

Also after lunch, the students were visited by another PPA Mommy who loves Yoga!  This Mommy/Daughter duo below read a Yoga book and showed the students some more yoga poses including the Butterfly pose, Cat pose, Mountain pose, and the Tree pose (seen below).  A special PPA “Thank You” to this Mommy and Daughter team for the Yoga-rrific lesson!

On Friday, the YummY fun continued as the students made a YummY Yellow with a Yellow food that is usually considered to be a bit YuckY – Lemons!  Can you guess what the students made with Yellow lemons that turned these sour fruits into something YummY?  Here is a hint:  A glass of this is very refreshing on a hot day!  If you said, “Lemonade”, then you are correct!  The students worked their hands to squeeze all the juice from the lemons into a pitcher.  With the addition of a few other ingredients, the students quickly saw how easy and fun it was to make (and enjoy) this YummY Yellow!
