Hello all,
“Letter B is for Body Week” was By far the Best week of the 2016-2017 school year yet! The students entered school each day with a bountiful amount of Letter B shares! Everything from Ballet slippers, Bowling pins, Baby Bottles, and Baseballs was sent in and shared! There were Bulks of Letter B Books that came in as well! To help explore the letter B, the students also studied all about the Body! Well, “Letter B is for Body Week” has come and gone. Read on below to discover the learning that took place and fun that was had throughout the week!
The students spent both Tuesday and Wednesday morning working one on one with the teachers to complete their Letter B tracing/identification/fine motor activity sheets. The teachers were so impressed with how easily the new students recognized the letter B and also how well the older students remembered all things “B” during their morning work! In the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday, the students created the second letter list of the year! Naturally, the letter B list was a Big one! As a whole group, the students took turns brainstorming and contributing words that begin with the letter B!
How many B shares do you see?
Answer: Blocks, Bread, Banana, Badge, and B!
The art exploration of the letter B and our Bodies began on Thursday. The students created mini-people puppets and then labeled and decorated the body accordingly. Take a look below to see some of the fun!
During the afternoon on both Thursday and Friday, the students participated in the second week of Spanish class. To begin the lesson, the students sang the “Hola Song,” of course, and then reviewed their Greetings vocabulary (see previous blog post for complete list of the Greetings vocabulary). After Spanish class wrapped up, the students enjoyed singing and dancing along to a very fitting for “Letter B is for Body Week” song – Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!
On Friday, the students examined what the inside of the human body looks like! The Human Body Pop-Up Book proved to be very helpful in learning all about the various parts of the body. Seeing that it was letter B week, the teachers decided to focus on a very important part of our body that begins with the letter B – our Bones! After viewing an actual X-Ray of Miss Elizabeth’s hand, the students had the opportunity to create their own hand X-Rays! They used a particularly silly material to simulate the bones in their X-Ray, can you tell what it is?
During the afternoon on Friday, the students welcomed a very special PPA Mommy into the classroom to lead a discussion and activity all about bones! She shared a very fitting story called Bones: Skeletons and How They Work by Steve Jenkins. The students were fascinated by the life-sized pictures of human and animal bones. She even brought in a real cow vertebrae for the class to touch and explore! After a very informative and fun discussion about why bones are important, the students were so excited to hear they would be making another special bone art project! The students worked on tracing their hands with chalk and then adding the bones of their fingers and hands! Thank you to this PPA Mommy for such a fantastic afternoon!
Well, that is all for “Letter B is for Body Week”; it sure was a Blast! As always, thank you for reading and have a fun and safe weekend!
