Spring Recess Next Week – Back to School on April 25th!

Hello all,

Letter W is for WaCkY and WiLd Week was Wonderful, Wondrous, at times Warm, at times Wet, and OF COURSE WaCkY and WiLd!  Read on below to learn about the fun that was had and learning that took place!

As was to be expected, the students entered school ready to share some amazing letter W shares.  The share  box might need to be changed to a share bucket or basket since it is seems to always overflow!  Some W shares this week included Watches, Wallets, Wings (on a bird), Warrior Weapons, Wonder Woman, Woody from Toy Story, Whistles, Worms (fake ones!), even a piece of rather large piece of Wood was sent in!

For their morning work, the students spent Monday and Tuesday completing their letter W tracing/writing identification coloring activities.   The W fun continued as they worked in their morning stations around the classroom.  Here is the list that they created during the afternoon on Monday.

Wednesday was WaCkY WeDnEsDaY at Park Prep Academy and the students did not disappoint!  Here are some of the WaCkIeSt WaCkY WeDnEsDaY outfits that walked in!

The students spent the entire arrival time scoping out all the WaCkY WaRdRoBe choices their classmates had made.  For their morning work on Wednesday, the students created a WaCkY WeDnEsDaY story by filling in the blanks!  The story began, “When I arrived at the door of PPA, instead of Miss Justine greeting me, a ______________ opened the door!  I couldn’t believe my eyes!  What was a ___________ doing at school?”  The students’ answers ranged from land animals like Cheetahs and Tortoises to water-dwelling creatures like Jellyfish and Piranhas!  Regardless of their home, the animals in the answers the students gave were hilarious and certainly WaCkY!  The tale of the WaCkY wEdNesDaY at PPA continued as the students began drawing –  “The ___________ crayon came out ___________ instead!  I tried to stop drawing but the crayon wouldn’t stop!  I could not control it!  The next thing I knew, my other hand reached out for the __________ crayon but it came out __________ .   My family portrait was turning out all mixed up – see for yourself!”   Below is one of the student’s family portrait with the wackiest colors!

The stories just got WaCkIeR and WaCkIeR!  During the afternoon, the students had Spanish class where they reviewed El Animale vocabulary by playing charades.  Be sure to look a little bit below to view a video from Thursday’s Spanish lesson!

Speaking of Thursday, the teachers decided that the Wednesday students should not be the only ones to have a fun dress-up day!  For this reason, Thursday was named WiLd ThUrsDaY and the students were encouraged to dress up as WiLd as possible!  Whether they interpreted WiLd to mean WiLd animal,

WiLd West,

or WiLd as in WaCkY, they all came in looking great!

For their morning work, the students created a WiLd animal themed free-paint!  First the students painted the background of their picture.

Once they had done so, the students headed over to the table to add some foam WiLd animals to their pictures! Here is how the completed project turned out!

Here is a video from Thursday afternoon where the students sang their song to review El Animale vocabulary before playing charades!

On Friday, the students celebrated Earth Day!  Unfortunately this year, Earth Day is on a day (Friday, April 22nd) that the school is closed for Spring Recess.  With the weather finally turning warm, the students will likely spend most of their Spring Recess outside so the teachers decided that the Friday before the break would a perfect day to celebrate – despite being a week early!  In order to commemorate the special day, the students worked together to create their very own little (and scrumptious) Earth!

Using teamwork, the students baked several batches of Rice Krispy Treats – some blue and some green.

Why do you think the colors green and blue were chosen to create the yummy little Planet Earth?

After the batches were mixed, one scoop of the blue-colored batch was added to one scoop of the green colored batch.  After pulling each scoop apart into several pieces, the pieces were mixed together to create a little mini-Earth treat!

The treats were put aside to cool but they were greatly enjoyed during snack time!

During the afternoon, the students discussed the reasons why Earth Day is celebrated and ways that they can help the planet!  To culminate the discussion, the students observed the following video clip which shows how big and beautiful our amazing planet really is!  Enjoy!

Well, that is all for Letter W is for WaCkY and WiLd Week!  As always, thank you for reading.  Have a wonderful and safe weekend and Spring Recess!
