Hello all,
I Love My Daddy Week was full of hard work, laughs, and a lot of love! Read on below to learn all about what the students did throughout the week to show their appreciation for their Daddies!
In order to prepare the perfect gift for the big celebration on Friday, the students worked diligently throughout the week on their Father’s Day gift – a personalized “I Love My Daddy Because.. Book”. This book was personalized to each Daddy in the school because it was authored and illustrated by the students!
The book factory opened up on Monday as the students began coloring and decorating the covers of their books. During the afternoon on Monday, the students brainstormed a list of reasons why Daddies are so special. Here is the list they came up with.
On Tuesday morning, the students added their handprint to the back cover of their books. While the painted back cover was drying, the students were interviewed to answer the question, “Why do you love Daddy?”. Their words were recorded, printed, then added into their books. Here are some of the students’ answers as to why they love their Daddies.
I love my Daddy because he gives me lollipops when I eat all of my dinner.
I love my Daddy because he gives the best baths.
I love my Daddy because he scoots around real fast in the car.
I love my Daddy because he is really strong!
From the wide range of answers that the students gave, it was clear to the teachers that the Park Prep Daddies are the best around!
During the afternoon on Tuesday, the students brainstormed a list of things that they enjoy doing with Daddies. Here is their list.
During the afternoon on both Wednesday and Thursday, the students rehearsed their special Father’s Day performance. Be sure to check out the video below to see how the students did at their live performance!
On Wednesday, the students began illustrating their books to match the words they had added on Tuesday.
On Thursday morning, the students decorated the backside of their books. The plain backing on their books did not stay plain for long! Boy, were they colorful!
Friday morning kicked off with the final step of the gift – wrapping! Using colored tissue paper and tape, the students folded, wrapped their gifts so as not to ruin the surprise later.
With a little help from the teachers, the wrapping was secured with a special little gift tags. Here is what each page of the book looked like.
Before the students knew it, the Father’s Day Celebration had arrived! Unfortunately due to heavy rain conditions, the Father’s Day Field Day full of outdoor games and play had to be cancelled. Fortunately, the teachers had come up with a special (and SCRUMPTIOUS) back-up indoor plan for the celebration!
One by one, the Daddies arrived at PPA ready to celebrate. The celebration began with a special read-aloud. Since there were both Daddies and Grandpas at the PPA Father’s Day Celebration, the teachers read Todd Parr’s, The Daddy Book and The Grandpa Book.
After the story, the students gathered together to put on the special, well-rehearsed performance. Take a look below.

The students then presented their Daddies with their gifts. As you can see from the looks on the Daddies’ faces, it was clear that the books were a huge hit!
Once the excitement calmed down a bit, the teachers announced the big SURPRISE plan for the celebration. Seeing that Father’s Day is traditionally celebrated on Sunday, the students and their Daddies would be making Father’s Day Ice Cream SUNDAES on Friday! The room erupted with excitement as the ice cream and various toppings were brought out to the tables. Each table was given assorted toppings including marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, Magic Shell chocolate topping, and of course, cherries! The teachers began scooping the ice cream into the students’ and Daddies’ dishes and then the students added the toppings!
The Father’s Day sundaes were MASSIVE, topped with toppings, sprinkled, and definitely enjoyed by all!
After the sundaes had been created and enjoyed, the teachers gathered the students and their Daddies over to the rugs to listen to a very special read aloud of a NEW book – Should I Share My Ice Cream? by Mo Willems. It was a hit!
What a great story and what a great day! We hope the Park Prep Daddies enjoyed the celebration and their sundaes! Thank you to all the Daddies who were able to attend. You really are the best! Happy Father’s Day!
