Hello all,
“Fall/Autumn Week” was full of Fall excitement! Read on below to learn about all the fun that was had and learning that took place.
The teachers began the week by asking the students the following question, ” What happens in the Fall?” Hands flew into the air as responses such as “the leaves fall down” and “the leaves change color” were shared, but Fall is not just about leaves! Other answers such as, “We do not go swimming at the pool anymore” or “We wear sweaters and coats” were mentioned. One student brought in a football to share because as she said, “Fall means Football!” Regardless of what the students associated Fall with, one thing was for sure – Fall is Fun! Throughout Fall/Autumn Week, the students created beautiful Fall-inspired art to honor this beautiful and dynamic season!
On Monday, the students created a colorful Fall Tree art project. Take a look below to see the students in action.
We are all about learning and making friends at PPA! How fitting it was on Tuesday when the students investigated the new season and literally made a new friend -likely not the kind you may be thinking of though! These friends were Leaf-Friends made by transforming a leaf of their choice into a Leaf-pal with some googly eyes and a big smile. Whether they chose leaves of a great big Oak tree or the leaves of a skinny Ginko tree, the students all thought this project was super silly and super fun!
Also on Tuesday, the students were visited by a parent reader who helped them start their day. Thank you to the Daddy/son duo featured below!
On Monday (and Tuesday) afternoon, the students created a list of all things Fall! Here is what they came up with!
They also learned a new Fall song, “Autumn Leaves”, during afternoon music class this week.
Autumn Leaves
Sung to the tune of “London Bridge Is Falling Down”
Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down,
Falling Down, Falling Down.
Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down,
Down to the ground.
Rake them up and make a pile,
make a pile, make a pile.
Rake them up and make a pile,
it will make you smile.
Jump into the pile of leaves,
piles of leaves, piles of leaves.
Jump into the pile of leaves,
take turns if you please!
On Wednesday, the students created an edible Fall treat! They worked together to make Jell-O Jigglers! Since it was “Fall/Autumn Week”, the students selected the color and cookie cutter shapes inspired by the season! They used pumpkin cookie cutters to create their jiggly snack, one thing was for sure – it was YUMMY FALL FUN!
Later in the morning, the students brainstormed a list of questions they wanted to investigate during the afternoon technology presentation all about Fall! The student questions were excellent, be sure to take a look below to read some of them!
As mentioned, Wednesday and Thursday wrapped up with a technology presentation all about the questions shown above. However, to really understand the Fall, it is important to consider what happens in each of the seasons! Watch below to play the game “Guess The Seasons!” like the students did! They got an A+, how about you?
For morning work on Thursday, the students created a marbleized leaf art project using shaving cream and food coloring! A quick spray of shaving cream into a dish plus a few drops of coloring followed by a quick swirl, paper dip and paper scrape yielded these results. How beautiful, messy and super fun!
Friday afternoon was the Park Prep Academy Pumpkin Picking Party at the Park! One by one, the PPA parents began to arrive. Needless to say, the students greeted them warmly! Once everyone had arrived, the students put on a fantastic Fall musical performance and then headed in to the pumpkin patch and began selecting their pumpkins! (Due to rain, the Pumpkin Patch was moved indoors but it didn’t affect the level of fun the students had pumpkin picking!) After all the pumpkins had been picked, the students and their parents made their way to the tables to begin decorating! Using felt pieces, sparkly sequins, feathers, pompoms and more, the students and their parents transformed the regular pumpkins into sparkly masterpieces! The pumpkins were set aside to dry before the party wrapped up and the students headed home to enjoy the weekend! A special PPA THANK YOU to all of the families in attendance – and also to Ms. Elizabeth for starting an AMAZING Hay-Tossing Party in the pumpkin patch! 🙂 What a fun day it was!
Wow! What an amazing week! Although “Fall/Autumn Week” has come and gone, the students have a while left to enjoy all of the fun and wonder that the Fall brings! As always, thank you for reading and have a wonderful and safe weekend!
