“Feelings and Friendship Week” Blog Recap!

Hello all,

“Feelings and Friendship Week” was full of just that, Feelings and Friendship! 🙂 Through play, hard work, and discussion, the students practiced identifying and recognizing all sorts of feelings and ways to be a friend throughout the entire week! Read on below to learn about all the fun that was had and learning that took place!

Monday morning began with a whole class read aloud of a book that is a definite PPA favorite, How Are You Peeling? Foods With Moods, written by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elfers. In the story, all different types of feelings are discussed but the illustrations are what really steal the show! Every illustration is created using actual food! Take a look below to see just how detailed, imaginative, and fun these illustrations are!

For their morning work on Monday and Tuesday, the students created a “Feeling Faces” Photo Album!  One by one, the students came over to have their photograph taken under a sign showing one of the following feelings:  Happy, Sad, Angry, or Silly!  The students blew the teachers away with their ability to show each feeling with such extremely expressive faces!  Here are some of the photos from the students “Feeling Faces” activity.

The students explored the theme of friendship on Tuesday morning as they created a Partner Paint!  First, the students were grouped in pairs.  Each student introduced him/herself to the partner then selected one color to paint with.  Each partner began by painting with the chosen color.  After a few minutes, the partners swapped sides and began adding their color to the partner’s painting!  In the end, each partner’s painting had a piece of their friend’s artwork too!  What a special art project and more importantly, special friendship!

During the afternoons of  “Feelings and Friendship Week”, the students discussed each feeling by creating a list for a few of the more common feelings.  Here are the lists that the students came up with for what makes them feel happy and what makes them feel sad.

On Wednesday, the students welcomed the first PPA parent visitor of the year as a Guest Reader!  With Friendship on the brain, the Mommy photographed below volunteered her time to read a particularly sweet story about feelings to the class – Ellie by  Mike Wu.  A special PPA Thank You to this Mommy and her children for helping to make Wednesday morning so special!

ATTENTION PPA PARENTS:  If you would like to visit PPA, please reach out to Miss Justine or Miss Jocelyn to schedule your visit!

Also Wednesday, the students sat down for a “Feelings and Friendship Week” Interview.  One by one, the students were called over and asked to identify different reasons why they might feel Happy, Sad, Angry, and Silly.  The answers were quite honest and certainly entertaining to hear!  Here is how the completed project turned out!

On Thursday, the students dove further into the theme of friendship as they discussed what it means to be a friend.  Through their discussion, the students determined that a friend is someone who “always plays nicely” and “does good sharing”.  They also decided that a friend is someone who “lets everyone play” and “does not hit, push, or grab”.  A friend also uses “nice words””.  Seeing how wonderful the PPA students are, the teachers were not surprised to hear that their description of what a friend is was so accurate!  🙂  Since the PPA students are some of the nicest kids around, the teachers announced that they were all Super Friends!  Like all Super People, the PPA Super Friends surely needed a special outfit!  Take a look below to see what the PPA Super Friends created for their morning work on Thursday!  Needless to say, they were … Super… excited! 🙂

On Friday, the students put on “FEELINGS FACES PERFORMANCES” where they took turns coming up in front of the class to express their feelings through movement and motion.  Throughout the afternoons of “Feelings and Friendship Week”, the students participated in music class where they learned and sang along to some preschool classic songs about “Feelings and Friendship”  including:  “If You’re Happy And You Know It” and “The More We Get Together”.  They also LOVED doing “EMOTION MOTION”.  Try it at home now!

Skip HAPPILY around the room!

Now, March ANGRILY!

Do a super SiLLy Dance!

Way to go!

Well, that is all for “Feelings and Friendship Week!”  What an amazing (and silly) week it was!  Be sure to click the link below to visit the PPA Photo Gallery and view all of the Feelings Face photographs!  As always, thank you for reading.  See you next week!
