“Letter D is for Dinosaur Week” is next!

Hello all,

“Letter C is for Camping Week” was by far the Coolest week of the 2014-2015 school year yet!  The students entered school each day with a Crazy amount of Letter C shares! Everything from Cookies, Camping supplies, Coloring books, and Cows were sent in and shared!  There were tons of Letter C books that came in as well!  To help explore the letter C, the students also learned all about camping!  Well, “Letter C is for Camping Week” has come and gone.  Read on below to discover the learning that took place and fun that was had throughout the week!

The students spent both Tuesday and Wednesday morning working one on one with the teachers to complete their Letter C identification/fine motor activity sheets.  The teachers were so impressed with how easily the new students recognized the letter C and also how well the older students remembered all things “C” during their morning work!  In the afternoon on Tuesday and Wednesday, the students created the third letter list of the year!  Naturally, the letter C list was full of Creative answers!  As a whole group, the students took turns brainstorming and contributing words that begin with the letter C and also hunted around the classroom for letter C items!

Letter C MW List and Shares

How many C shares do you see?

Answer:  Corduroy Book,  Cat In The Hat Book, Cow, Chicken, Cupcake, Crab, and C!

Also in the afternoon on Tuesday, the students welcomed the first PPA parent visitor of the year as a Guest Reader!  With Halloween just around the Corner, the Mommy photographed below volunteered her time to read a particularly silly and spooky story to the class!  Judging by their excited reactions and big smiles, it is clear that the students are excited for Halloween in just a few short weeks!  A special PPA Thank You to this Mommy and her daughter for helping to make Tuesday afternoon so special!

PSST PARENTS!

Be sure to see Miss Jocelyn if you are interested in doing an activity with the students of PPA at some point this school year!  We would love to have you! 🙂

Things really got quite silly on Thursday as the students learned that they would be going on their own camping adventure – right inside the PPA classroom!  Using life-sized K’Nex during their morning activity stations, the students worked together in small groups to engineer and construct an actual tent-like structure in the middle of the classroom!

CAMPSITE

Once the structure was built, the students had a blast exploring and “camping out” with their pals.  Thankfully the only bears that made their way into their tents were of the “Teddy” species.  🙂  Take a look below to see the students in action!

Now, seeing that the students had spent the day “camping”, it only seemed fair that they enjoyed a favorite camping pastime – SMORES!  With a little help from the class microwave, the students each assembled and thoroughly enjoyed a piece of this sweet camping treat at snack time.

SMORES

In the afternoon on both Thursday (and Friday), the students participated in Spanish class where they practiced their Los Numeros (Numbers) vocabulary.  Speaking of Friday, it was Picture Day at PPA and the students arrived dressed to impress!  Each child posed in front of the camera for his/her individual portrait and also in a group class shot.  The school photograph proofs will be available for viewing in approximately two-three weeks.  Depending on how quickly the order forms are returned back to school, the student photo packages will possibly be ready for distribution before Thanksgiving!  Well, that is all for “Letter C is for Camping Week”; it sure was a Cool one!  As always, thank you for reading and have a fun and safe weekend!
