“Letter D is for Dinosaur Week” is next!

Hello all,

“Letter C is for Cow Week” was Utterly Cool, Colorful, and Creative!  Read on below to learn about the fun that was had and learning that took place!

Despite last week being “Halloween Week” at PPA, the actual holiday fell on Monday.  Needless to say, none of the students were upset to extend the celebration into Letter C week!  The students arrived at school in Costume (look!  A letter C!) and spent the morning working and playing with their friends and teachers.  Take a peek at some of the Crazy Costumes that the students wore!  Didn’t they look great?

Even the teachers were getting in on the fun!

The students and their families spent the afternoon celebrating at the 2011 PPA Halloween Parade and Party!

First, the students and their families listened to a great and rhythmic story called, Shake Dem Halloween Bones!

Next, the students lined up and paraded around the classroom in their Halloween costumes.

Finally, it was time to relax and enjoy some yummy treats before heading out to go Trick-or-Treating all night long!

What a fun and exciting day!  Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the blog post to view all of the photographs from the 2011 PPA Halloween Party.

It was back to “Letter C is for Cows” on Tuesday.  In preparation for parent-teacher conferences, the students’ morning letter recognition work from Tuesday and Wednesday was collected and filed.  During the afternoon, the students created a Letter C Word List and went hunting for C’s around the classroom.  Here is their list from Wednesday!

On Thursday, the student were feeling very crafty as they created the first Cow art project of the week!  Using a paper bag lined with white paper, the students assembled the various parts of the cows head and face including the eyes, mouth, and ears.

The puppet sure was starting to look like an animal – just not a cow!  There was something missing!  What do you think was missing from this cow?

If you said, “The spots!” then you are correct!  Using sponges, the students spongepainted black spots all over their cow puppets!

Here is how the final project turned out!

During the afternoon on both Thursday and Friday, the students had Spanish class where they began unit DOS (two) – Los Colores (colors).  Here is the vocabulary and song the students will be learning about over the next few weeks.
