Hello all,
“Letter N is for Noodles Week” was by far the Nicest week of the 2016-2017 school year yet! The students entered school each day with so many Letter N shares! Everything from: Narwhals, Nests, Noodles, Necklaces, Nets, Nutcrackers, Neckties and a map of New Jersey! To help explore the letter N, the students spent the week learning about and playing with Noodles! Well, “Letter N is for Noodles Week” has come and gone. Read on below to discover the learning that took place and fun that was had throughout the week!
At the beginning of the week, the students worked on their letter N tracing and identification activity sheets. Some of the N words included: numbers, noodles, nests, nurses, noses, and more! Much to the surprise of the teachers, the students had quite an extensive vocabulary for noodles! Spaghetti, pasta, macaroni, and ziti were just a few of the words students used to describe the pictures of noodles. After a little reminder as to what the letter of the week was, the students quickly shifted their answer to the umbrella term, noodle! In the afternoons, the students used their noggins to create the following Letter N Word List.
It was time to get artsy on Wednesday! The students learned that they would be making Noodle Necklaces but not just Normal Noodle Necklaces – these Noodle Necklaces would be fancy! The teachers spread the Nifty Noodles out on the table and the students began stringing their necklaces! Here is how the completed necklace turned out!
The noodle art continued on Thursday as the students created Noodle N’s! The students filled in the letter N by gluing on all sorts of assorted noodles! What a silly project it was!
During both Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, the students participated in Spanish class where they began a new unit – La Comida (food). The students learned vocabulary for four different types of food – leche (milk), jugo (juice), queso (cheese) and papa (potato). They also learned La Cancion de la Comida (The Food Song). Be sure to practice this with your child over the next few weeks.
La Cancion de la Comida
(The Food Song)
(to the tune of She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain)
Queso is cheese, yum, yum, yum!
(clap, clap)
Leche is milk, yum, yum, yum!
(clap, clap)
Jugo is juice,
Papa is potato.
These are the things we like to eat and drink.
Things got super silly on Friday when the teachers introduced the students to a Veggetti! Do you know what a Veggetti is? Well, a Veggetti is a fancy way to say, “a food spiralizer”. Take a look to see the students and the Veggetti in action!
Naturally, the students had a blast making “noodles” from all sorts of veggies including: cucumbers, carrots, zucchini, and more! The students loved eating their different shaped “noodles” with some Ranch dressing during snack time! Yummy! Parent Tip: The students LOVED these veggie noodles! What a fun and exciting way to get some veggies in! 🙂
Well, that is all for Letter N Week. We hope you enjoyed this week’s blog entry. As always, thanks for reading and we’ll see you next week!
