Hello all,
The letter P is such a phenomenal and popular letter that it made it difficult to choose just one word for the theme of the week. As a result, the theme (well, themes) of the week were: Pirates, Princesses, Princes, Pajamas and Pizza! Not surprisingly, the share box was overflowing with a plethora of letter P items! Everything from pirate patches to princess props to pancake batter to popcorn pops! It was quite a full (and rhyming) share box!
Aside from learning about pirates, princesses, and princes, the students had the opportunity to dress as them all week long! Here are some of the Pirate, Prince, or Princess highlights from Tuesday and Wednesday!
After sharing their shares, the students dove right in and began working on their morning work – Letter P identification activity sheets. Penguins, peacocks, pirates, princess/princes, pencils, and pigs all showed up. Some of the students referred to the picture of a pencil as a pen. After noticing the eraser, the students changed their answer to pencil. One student looked up and said, “Well, either way it is still a P!” She was right. 🙂
On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, the students had music during which they sang along to such Letter P hits as: “Patty Cake” and “Pussycat, Pussycat, where have you been?” and then danced to “Polly Wolly Doodle” and “Purple People Eater”. After music, the students brainstormed a list of letter P words. Here’s what the Tuesday group came up with!
Also on Wednesday afternoon, the students were visited by a PPA Mommy Pirate! The Mommy photographed below came in to read a wonderful story to the students with a special pirate pal (and PPA student) next to her! What a wonderful story it was! Thank you to this pirate pair for helping to make Wednesday afternoon so special!
Thursday and Friday marked the students art expoloration of the Letter P! It was also Pajama Day! Take a look below for some of the PJ highlights!
For their morning work on Thursday, the students learned they would be assembling a Preschool Pirate! Every good pirate needs a few things – a bandana, striped clothing, and of course a hook! Using some glitter to create the hook, dots to decorate the bandanna, and stripes for the shirt, the pirate look soon came to life! The only problem was that the pirate did not have a face! The students all wondered what materials they would be using for the pirate’s face. Here’s the solution we came up with.
During the afternoon on both Thursday (and Friday), the students participated in Spanish class where they began a brand new (and very exciting) unit – Los Animales (Animals). Here is some of the vocabularly they learned.
Los Animales (Animals)
Gato – Cat
Perro – Dog
Oso – Bear
Vaca – Cow
Pájaro – Bird
Elefante – Elphant
For morning work on Friday, the pajama-clad students created their very own Prince or Princess crown. Using glitter glue and precious jewels, the students decorated their crowns so beautifully that even the fanciest Prince/Princess in the world would want them! In fact, the students crowned themselves to become official Park Prep Princeses and Princesses! Take a look below!
As if Pajama Day was not exciting enough, Friday was also pizza day at PPA! Just before lunchtime, the pizza delivery arrived! Once the students had all found their seats, the Pizza Party began!
Letter P Week wrapped up on Friday afternoon with another PPA parent visit! The Mommy and Daddy photographed below read a Penguin story to the students and then introduced them to a rather precocious penguin named Pingu. After listening to the story, the Mommy and Daddy shared the following clip called Pingu’s Pancakes with the students.
What a mess Pingu and Pinga made with those pancakes! Fortunately, the students were not as messy as Pingu and Pinga when they prepared their delicious and healthy penguin snacks with their friends! What an excellent day it was! A special PPA Thank You to the PPA Parents who visited this week!
Well, that is all for letter P Week. Be sure to scroll to the end of this blog entry for ALL of the P week photos! As always, thank you for reading. Have a fun and safe weekend!
