Hello all,
“Letter U is for Upside Down Week” was utterly unbelievable, unimaginably unique and uber-uplifting! Read on below to learn about the fun that was had and learning that took place!
Although the letter U is not the most common letter in the alphabet, the students managed to fill the sharebox each day throughout the week! Well, only a few of the shares actually started with the letter U while most of them related to the Upside Down theme! Take a look below to see some of the shares the students brought in this week.
The students spent Monday and Tuesday morning completing their letter U activities and morning work! During both Monday and Tuesday afternoon, the students created a Letter U list and went hunting around the classroom for any U in sight! Despite the confusion early on with word suggestions like “You starts with U”, the students were able to come up with a lot of great U words!
Wednesday morning was spent discussing the letter U theme of the week – Upside Down! For their morning work, the students mixed, poured, and baked personal mini-upside down cakes! Take a look below to see the students in action!
During the afternoon on Wednesday, the students had Spanish class where they continued to expand their Los Animales (Animal) vocabulary. Naturally, they decided to incorporate the theme of the week and learn the names for some animals that hang upside down including el murciélago (bat).
Thursday morning began with a reading of the story, The Bat Who Wore Glasses. Miss Justine came over and asked why the students were reading a book about bats on U Week. The students quickly reminded her that bats hang upside down! After the story, the students created the following “Upside Down Bat” art project!
Things got extra silly on Friday as the student learned that they would be posing for a photograph – UPSIDE DOWN! Thanks to some help from the strong teachers of PPA, the students were lifted and flipped upside down for their photos. Needless to say, the photos were very enjoyable later in the day during the afternoon technology presentation which featured each students’ UPSIDE DOWN photograph! Here are some of the highlights!
Wow! What a fun activity and what a great week “Letter U is for Upside Down” Week TURNED out to be! As always, we thank you for reading. Have a wonderful weekend!
