Hello all,
After studying the alphabet for nearly nine months, it finally was Letter Z Week! The students arrived at school on Monday morning extremely excited to learn all about the last letter of the alphabet! With a share box full of alphabet books, zucchini, zippers, zeroes, and more, the Letter Z shares sure were plentiful! Of particular abundance were various zoo animal shares including tigers, lions, monkeys, rhinos, and of course, zebras! “Letter Z is for Zig-Zag Week” was Zany, Zesty, Zippy, and certainly Zig-Zaggy! Read on below to learn about the fun that was had and learning that took place.
The students spent Monday and Tuesday morning working one on one with the teachers to complete their Letter Z identification/fine motor activity pages. The teachers were so impressed with how easily the younger students recognized the letter Z and also how well the older students remembered all things “Z” during their morning work! In the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday, the students created the twenty-sixth and final letter list of the year! As a group, the students took turns brainstorming and contributing words that begin with the letter Z. They also hunted around the classroom for letter Z items! Do you see any Z shares below?
On Wednesday, the students created the first Zig-Zag craft of the week. First, the students used assorted paints to create a colorful masterpiece. Their eyes widened as the teachers pulled out a few pieces from the Playstix Activity Station and asked them to use the tool to create Zig-Zags all over their papers! Take a look below at their Zany and Ziggy paintings!
The art exploration continued on Thursday morning as the students as created some more Zig-Zag art – this time on Magic Scratch Art Paper! What started out as plain black paper quickly turned into a colorful, zig-zaggy creation with some extra pizazz!
During the afternoon on both Wednesday and Thursday, the students had Spanish class where they reviewed their La Familia (Family) vocabulary by taking turns giving clues as to which member of the family they were describing. For instance, one student gave these clues…
1. This person is a grown-up.
2. This person wears a suit to work sometimes.
3. This person sometimes makes you pancakes on Saturday morning.
Who is this person?
Answer: Papa (Daddy!)
On Friday, the teachers cleared the room and made way for a PPA Zig-Zag Obstacle Course! The students spent the morning zigging and zagging all around the classroom! Take a look below to see them in action and be sure to view the video to see the Zany Zig-Zag video too!
On Friday afternoon, the students participated in a technology presentation all about the Letter Z! Seeing that the letter Z is the last letter in the alphabet – what better clip to view than one that recaps the entire alphabet! Enjoy!
Well, that is all for “Letter Z is for Zig-Zag Week”. As always, thank you for reading. Have a fun and safe weekend!
