Whew! That was a lot of work but not nearly as much work as the students did all year long while studying each of the 26 letters of the alphabet! Read on below to see what the students did to commemorate the school year and also their alphabet exploration!

Monday morning began with a visit from a PPA Mommy who selected the perfect alphabet book to help the students get ready for the week ahead, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault!  In the story, the lowercase letters of the alphabet race to the top of a coconut tree.  While all 26 letters make it up to the top, they do not stay up there very long!  CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM!  There was NOT enough room!  All the letters come crashing down to the ground, thankfully their parents (the uppercase letters) came in to save the day!  A special PPA Thank You to the Mommy photographed below for helping us start the week!

After presenting a wide assortment of alphabet shares, the students learned that they would be working on super special letter activities each day in both morning work and their morning activity stations!  The students spent the rest of Monday morning discovering letters all around the classroom!  They particularly loved participating in assorted morning activities including:  Letter excavating at the sand table, ABC Bingo, and more!  During the afternoon on Monday (and throughout Alphabet Review Week), the students worked together to create various lists using the entire alphabet!  The students listed everything from the ABC’s of Food, to Animal ABC’s, to Name ABC’s, to Things at PPA ABC’s!  Take a look below to see the students’ Food Alphabet!  They did such an amazing job!

On Tuesday, the students tried their hands at sign language as they worked with their teachers to learn how to sign each letter in their names!  The students had a blast reviewing the letters while learning another language!

On Wednesday, the students played Duck, Duck, LETTER!  In order to play the game, the students were called over in small groups to work with the teachers.  Each student took a turn selecting a particular duck from the table.  Underneath each duck was a letter of the alphabet!  After identifying the chosen letter, the students had to race around the classroom and find one item that began with the letter!  Needless to say, Duck, Duck, LETTER was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone!

On Thursday, the students worked together to prepare some delicious cookie dough which was later molded into the initial letter of their first name!  As was to be expected, the students particularly LOVED this delicious letter activity!  Take a look below to see them in action!

On Friday, the students explored the Alphabet Bag Station during morning work!  Each alphabet bag is marked with a letter.  Inside each bag is a random assortment of various items that match the letter!  The students worked in groups while playing, “GUESS THE LETTER”.  In order to play the game, each student was instructed to select a bag and turn it upside down so no one else could see it!  One by one, each student took a turn as the “presenter” who looked into the mystery bag and identified the various items inside!  The students all took turns identifying which letter the presenter was holding!  What a fun activity it was!  Can you guess which letter Alphabet Bag is below?

If you said, “Letter B”, then you are correct!  Way to go!

Wow! The students sure did a phenomenal job studying the alphabet this school year! Here are the letters and topics they explored. A is for Apples, B is for Birds, C is for Camping, D is for Dinosaur, E is for Eggs, F is for Fairy Tales, G is for Grocery Store, H is for Helping, I is for Instruments, J is for Jungle, K is for Kicks, L is for Library, M is for Mo Willems, N is for Numbers, O is for Ocean, P is for Pirates/Princes/Princesses/Pajamas, Q is for Questions, R is for Relay Races, S is for Spring, T is for Tie-Dye, U is for up in the Sky, V is for Vehicles, W is for WiLd and WaCkY, X is for… X Marks the Spot, Y is for Yummy Yellows, and Z is for Zippers!

Whew! That sure was a lot to learn about! Looking back at all of the letters that were studied reminds you what an amazing school year the 2014-2015 school year has been!  The good news is that there is still much more learning to take place and fun to be had as we head into the final weeks of the school year! We can hardly wait! As always, thank you for reading. Have a fun and safe weekend. We will see you next week!
