Hello all,

The 2016 Park Prep Academy Summer Camp began this week with “Welcome to Camp Week” and boy, are we off to a great start! The students did not waste any time getting right back into the swing of things! As is always the case when summer camp begins, the returning students welcomed a new wave of campers into the group. The teachers were so impressed to see how warmly the returning students welcomed their new friends, showing them the ropes, and even lending a helping hand when needed! After a large group introduction during morning meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, the students headed off to their morning activity stations. Working in small groups around the room, the students explored the classroom before being called over to the art table to add a colorful design to the back of their PPA Summer Camp T-shirt! The artwork on the backs of these shirts will certainly help the PPA kids stand out as we head on all of our bus field trips this summer!

On Thursday morning, the students greeted their new (and old) friends once again and then created a beautiful and colorful free painting at PPA’s art easel station for the second Art Day of camp!

During the first two afternoons of “Welcome to Camp Week”, the students discussed and role-played all of the rules of camp. Part of the discussion included Park and Field Trip Safety. The students practiced wearing pinnies and walking on the rope. They did such a great job, it was clear they were ready to enjoy the beautiful playground and park!

On Friday, the students headed out into the neighborhood to visit some of Jersey City’s Bravest – the local Firefighters!  Upon arrival at the fire house, the students were greeted warmly by Captain Phil and the other members of the A-Group of JCFD!  The A-Group really pulled out all the stops during the field trip.  They showed the students the pumper (water) trucks, the fire hose and all of the their firefighting gear and more!  Of course, they explained the importance of fire safety and prevention throughout the morning!  As if visiting the fire house wasn’t exciting enough, the students were overjoyed to learn that the firefighters even had gifts to present to the students – a fire hat and a fire safety coloring book!   The students were so appreciative of the firefighters hard work and generosity!  With a big “Park Prep Thank You”, the students said goodbye to the firefighters and then headed back to school.  What an wonderful trip it was!  Be sure to look below for some of the photographic highlights from the incredible and important field trip!  An extra special PPA Thank You to the BRAVE men and women of the Jersey City (and all local) Fire Department – especially A Group!  🙂
